29. Kanha Jatakaya

One day our Blessed One publicly vowed that he would drink the miracle at the root of the Gandabba tree on Asaval day. Then the Shad Shastras, who were famous at that time as Shastras, came forward saying that we also do not know about miracles. Unable to do anything, he hesitated and hid. Our Blessed One is greater than the heavens to the point of a great miracle. The heavens were covered. After the exorcism, he went to Sankassa and proceeded to Jetavana with a large entourage. The monks gathered in the Damsabha Mandapa were talking about this miracle of the Blessed One. Moreover, the Blessed One said that even in his previous incarnation, he had very powerful responsibilities. At the request of those monks, the Blessed One said this Kanha Jataka.

Once upon a time there lived a king named Brahmadatta in Varanasi. At that time, bodhisattvas were born in cow's vagina. This cow stopped at a certain woman's house when it was a calf. Unable to pay the rent, the woman lost her child. This grandmother is very fond of her calf. He raised him like his own child. This cow is dark black in color. Kanha means black. Because of this, this cow became known as 'Grandma's Black'. At a young age, he became a great bull with the appearance of a Taurus king with great height. He goes for a walk with other cows. But no worries. Very polite. No one is being persecuted. Everyone loves this cow. Village boys hang from the two horns of this cow. Hanging from both ears. It also hangs from the neck. climbing on the back Pulls by the tail. Grandmother's husband is at a loss, leaving the boys to do whatever they want.

One day the Bodhisattva thought like this. Oh , my mother suffered a lot to raise me. I must also do some work and rescue her from this poverty.' Since then, this cow was always looking for a job. One day, a wagoner's son took five hundred wagons and went to unload them at the wrong port , and all the wagons were set ablaze. His cattle could not reach them today. All five hundred wagons were lined up with bullocks, but they could not shake even one wagon. At this time, Bosa and the cow were hanging out near the pier along with the village cattle. The driver's son knows how to recognize the talents of cattle by their marks. Among those cows, we looked to see if there was a cow that could save us today. Then Bosat saw the cow. 'Huh... Barely enough…. There…. There is... Not a wonderful noble Taurus king. He will have the eye to load even five hundred wagons,' he thought and spoke to the children. “Hey kids…. Who is the owner of this cow ? Not a wonderful cow. I need this cow to help me. I will pay for it" then the children said.

"His owners are not here at this time. Take it with you and do whatever you want ."

Then the charioteer's son Bosat put the nose rope on the cow. Pulled to take. The cow, like a stone, remained unmoved. The driver's son understood the idea of the cow. He said:

“Lord…. help me If you dump my five hundred wagons, I will give you one thousand kahwanu at the rate of two kahwanu per wagon. Trust me.”

Then Bosat the cow willingly left. The people also tied the cow to the yoke . The cow was dragged to the heap with one breath. All five hundred wagons were recovered by that method. The wagoner 's son brought a bag in front of the cow. For the cow to see, they put five hundred kahwanu per gal. “ Oh boy …. The number is right" and tied the cow' s neck . The cow thought like this. 'Ah... Is he like this now? He goes inside without giving the number he talked about earlier. I will not let them go until they pay the amount promised to me' and stood across the road so that they could not go. No matter how hard he tried, he could not get the cow off the road. The driver 's son understood the idea of the cow. Finally, after counting the remaining five hundred , they showed it to the cow and put it in the bag. Then the cow left the road and let them go. Bodhisattvas were very happy that day. Hanging the bag of money around his neck , he left to go to his mother. The village boys surrounded the cow. Haha…. Today looks good. Let's see what Grandma's black got. They approached. Then the cow blew hard and chased them away. He ran to his mother.

The ox was very tired because it had been pulling five hundred wagons continuously. The eyes were red. Was very tired. Grandma picked up the bag. "My son... What brought me this…. Happe... Kahavanu no. Where are these from?” Then the boys who came running behind told the details. Mother felt very sad. "Oh my son... Why do I have to live on the money you bring from work? Please... don't suffer like this , son !” Grandma bathed the cow with hot water that day. Anointed the whole body. Drink. ate food Served with love.

Dear Sir, not only now. At that time, there was no one who could bear the same responsibilities as the Tathagatas," the Blessed One said this stanza.

"Responsibilities if carried in certain places

How serious but bear it

Those cows that were helpless as other cows could not

That black cow carried alone

"The responsibility is well shouldered."

Venerable monks, Uppalavannao was the grandmother that day. "I was the grandmother's black man," said the Blessed One.
