When our Blessed One was living in Jetavana in Sawat , there was a monk who was very fond of food. His extraordinary greed was noticeable. Then the monks took him to the Blessed One. This monk was criticized for his extreme greed for food. The Blessed One asked that monk.

"Is it true that the monk is as greedy for food as you say...? Monk... You are the same as a previous soul. Had to die due to excessive greed for food. Because of wisdom, he lost the place he got in it."

Then the monks wanted to hear the past story of that monk. He asked the Blessed One to teach it. The Blessed One said this Kapotaka Jataka.

"Venerable monks, long ago there lived a king named Brahmadatta in Varanasi. At that time Bodhisattvas were born in the vagina of pigeons. In those days, the people of Varanasi built nests filled with tenchia and hung them for the birds. The cook of the Benares planter also hung a cage in his kitchen. Bosat the pigeon lived there. The pigeon leaves early in the morning to find its prey. They come to the nest in the evening.

One day a crow flew by the kitchen and smelled the smell of cooked meat. There was a strong desire for it. Close to a branch.

When I was thinking, "Mm... it's not a good scent... I also want to eat meat with some strategy..." That evening, Bosat saw the pigeon flying into the kitchen. The next day the pigeon flew out of the kitchen to prey. Then Kapu also started flying after the dove.

“Ha… ha… crow… what is this…? What... coming after me....”

"Oh.. Swami... I am very impressed with your actions. I like to scare you."

“Friend… you are preying on other things… I am preying on other things… that's why those favors don't work…”

“Oh Lord…. As you hunt for prey, I will hunt for mine. Then I will go with you.”

"Good...then let's do it without delay ," said the pigeon , went to find the prey and ate the seeds. The crow went separately and grabbed a big pile of dung. He ate the worms that were full of it and filled his stomach . Crow Bosat came to the pigeon and started warning.

“Lord…. It's been a long time since I went looking for food ... It's not good for you to eat so much...' said the pigeon as it flew into the kitchen and the cotton followed. The chef saw this .

“And… and…. It's like our pigeon has got a friend" and hung a nest for the crow. From then on, both lived in the kitchen.

One day Situ got a lot of meat. Back then, the chef hung them in various places in the kitchen. The crow can't wait to see meat.

“Huh! " I'm not going to look for other food... I want to hang out here and eat some meat ," he said. In the morning the dove called the crow.

"Friend crow ... and... let's go... "

“Oh Lord…. You go... I have a stomach ache...."

"A stomach rumble...? Hey…. This…. Where does the crow come from? In one of the three nights, hunger will make you lose consciousness...! Even on a day when you have swallowed a ghee lamp, there is a little bit of comfort... You are here to eat meat... Let's go... People's food is something you can't even imagine... Don't think like that... ok let's go…. You can't go with me and eat anything..."

“ Oh Lord…. I can't go today..." The crow lay down.

" And... it doesn't matter... you shouldn't be greedy only for these foods ..." said the pigeon and flew to prey. The chef prepared a variety of meats. The lids were left open to reduce the heat of the pots. He came out of the kitchen and was sweating.

The crow slowly looked up from the nest. No one can see. 'and…! Now it's time to fulfill my wishes...! Do I eat a small piece of meat? A big piece of meat? No... a small one will not fill your stomach... you need to eat a big piece of meat...' he came down from the cage. Put the meat in the pot. The meat pot turned over. The cook came running.

"Happe...! This crow has eaten the meat that was prepared for our Situ... I am living because of Situ and not because of you." He closed the door and grabbed the crow. The wings were removed. The ground ginger, salt, and snoring that were there were rubbed on the body. Who was put in the cage ? The crow was lying down, croaking in pain.

Bosat the dove came in the evening and saw the sad crow. “ Oh…. Mitra... didn't listen to my words... did you get very sad ?" Said this stanza.

“One seeks good for another

If you do, be warned

But if he asks no

Heard the dove's words

Like a crow in the hands of enemies

lies down in sorrow"

"Now it is not suitable to live here" and flew to another area. The crow died on the spot. The cook threw the crow carcass in the trash.

Monk, I saw that you became very sad in that spirit because of your love for food. He brought that habit to this soul as well. Even now to be freed from this suffering greed." He preached the fourfold truth and said. At the end of that sermon, that monk became an agami fruit. "That day, monks, this monk was born as a crow. This Kapotaka Jataka said that I was the dove.
