48. Nakkatta Jatakaya

In those days, the Blessed One was working and living in Jetawana in Sawat. A princess of a certain caste in Savath chatted with a caste prince of another colony to give her refuge. A date was also fixed to take the princess Kanda. 'Hane... People on the son's side started saying, 'Don't celebrate weddings without auspiciousness.' Then they went to their dear friend.

“Oh Lord…. We have prepared a feast today. We need a good omen to bring the girl..." he said.

The survivor thought like this. Oh dear... Did they remember me now... It was not me who made the decision that day. Now why does the girl only ask me for favors. Well... I will teach them a good auspicious...' said Ajivaka very angry. He frowned and started saying this.

“Huh…. Why did you put the wedding day on today? If you had told me early, it would have made a wonderful auspicious sign. Don't do anything today! Today's horoscope is very bad. If you mess up today, there will be a big disaster. Oh... Don't tell me anything later...! It's not okay to curse sinners..."

Then the people on the boy's side were very afraid!

"Ok... ok... Lord... we understand... then let's make a day with a good auspicious yoga..." took another day from the living person. The girl did not go to the ceremony.

The group of the girl in Savat city is waiting for the girl to decorate and make a party, but no one came. The girl's parents were very angry.

"Those same people gave the day. We have done everything for the festival here. A lot of money has been spent. We don't care about those people... They betrayed our girl to another young man they know.

Those people who received good luck from Ajivakaya came another day accompanied by people. Came and asked for the girl.

"Oh dear... are you people too...? You are the one who gave us the day... We spent a lot of time and decorated the child and waited for a long time. Now there is only one way to go on foot. We gave our girl to a better boy that day..."

“Oh this…. It's not our fault... there was no auspicious day... the person who looked at our auspicious day said that we shouldn't do it that day..."

There was a big argument between them saying, "Ha... ha... your luck has crossed yours now." Because of these stories, it spread everywhere that the curse was broken by the auspiciousness of the living person. That fact became known among the monks. The monks gathered in the Damsabha pavilion were talking about this.

"Wasn't it broken in the Asawal family's decision to believe the good fortune of a living person..." Then the Blessed One went there and said. Occupant of the resurrected seat. The monks informed the Blessed One about what they were talking about. The Blessed One said this.

"Brother, it is not only this soul that broke the marriage because that living person is not good for that family. A previous spirit also threatened those people with a wedding ceremony..."

Then those monks asked the Blessed One to tell them what happened that day. The Blessed One said this jataka.

"Monks, long ago there was a king named Brahmadatta who ruled in Benares. At that time, a daughter of a family in a certain colony fixed a date to give shelter to a son in Varanasi. The people of Varanasi went to meet their beloved Ajivaka.

“Swami… today our son is taking a girl out of the house from Varanasi. It needs good auspiciousness..."

Then Ajeekavaya got very angry for booking a date without informing him.

"They have arranged their dates as they want and now they are coming here to ask for auspiciousness to go to the girl Kandan. I will give them a good auspicious sign..." he said.

“Hamme…. Why was such a good wedding ceremony used on a day like today...? It will be a big disaster if you do it today! You should listen carefully to what I say... Today is a very unlucky day... I will give you a good day with good luck....”

Then all the people looked face to face. Very shocked. The bride didn't go that day to Kandan En in case something happened after weighing the wedding at a bad omen.

The colonists were waiting for the bride with decorations. No one came. The bride's parents were very angry.

"Those same people gave today. We are looking forward to this. What is the result of these people...?" He gave the bride to another young man he knew.

On the day appointed by the Ajivakaya, those people came to marry the bride. They said, "We came to destroy Kelly."

Then the colonial people told the people of Varanasi like this.

"Aren't you ashamed...? We were told that you are going to kill Kelly on the day of Asaval... We were waiting for the girl to dress up.... He did not come that day... We gave our child to another young man..."

"Where does that give...? We made a hell of a decision... We went to ask a good augury from one of our dear Ajivakas when the bride was leaving the house. No luck that day. There was a bad omen. That's why we bathe...

"There is nothing to be done... because of your good luck, our work got messed up. Our Kelly is done. Now, how can you bring the girl to your heart's desire....?"

The speech gradually dragged on. They scolded each other well. Meanwhile, a wise man from the city had gone to that colony for some purpose. People from the city were heard saying that 'We did not swim because the Ajiwakaya said it was a bad omen'. “ Is there any other auspicious fruit there? "Getting the bride is not the only auspicious thing," said this stanza.

“By going to fortune-telling

Fools lose precious things

Doing something well is good

The stars in the sky

What can we do?

Monks, it is not only this soul that broke the marriage by saying that the Ajivakaya was talking about the auspiciousness. It was the same person who broke the marriage saying that the previous soul was also good. Both the families who quarreled then have quarreled now. "I was the wise man who recited the stanza," said this Jataka after finishing.
